SECTION COLLECTION INFORMATION

Dear Colleagues,

Teacher Education in today society is not just the structured formal start of the teaching profession, it is a process of professional preparation and development, aiming to enhance the quality performance in educational institutions at the service of a multicultural society. Being a complex process that must consider the different problems that rely on diverse disciplinary knowledge, Teacher Education is a collective effort, in continuous development, enabling education professionals to work collaboratively, when placed in educational institutions.

New educational trends point to a Teacher Education based on a practice-based curriculum, preparing teachers for the challenges inherent to the profession and for reflective work. Teacher's professional knowledge is multidimensional, not restricted to mere knowledge about the contents to be taught, so there are several factors to consider in Teacher Education, namely the enhancement of educational wisdom, rather than the common acquisition and development of scientific knowledge and skills. At the same time, with the technological evolution, digital literacy plays an extremely important role in modern societies, so teachers feel the need to acquire skills that will allow them to prepare their pupils to become active citizens in the 21st century. In this sense, knowledge acquired during Teacher Education programs and its subsequent application in teaching practices contributes to teachers' professional development and identity, in a continuous learning process and personal growth, which requires that professors at higher education institutions promote activities that contribute to the engagement of student teachers in their own learning process.

This section collection aims to provide a forum for researchers, professors, educators, and all other education professionals to share their perspectives in this area of study through empirical studies, systematic literature reviews, and research articles, contributing to disseminate information about good practices and, consequently, to promote improvements in teaching. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a rigorous double blind peer review process, ensuring the content’s scientific quality and relevance.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
