Special Issue Information

Dear colleagues,

Reproduction of sound in rooms using full range loudspeakers can be problematic at low frequencies, due to standing waves. The room’s modal response can cause large variations in the sound pwer response at different frequencies, causing audible peaks/dips and attendant ringing. Modal response at different seating locations can easily differ by 20 dB or more, causing listening experience to vary dramatically. Strategies have been developed to mitigate these effects. These include some novel methods to mitigate the seat to seat variations which have been proposed in recent years. These methods can be practical and effective.

We welcome high-quality papers discussing the current state of the art and highlighting the key challenges that need to be addressed to advance the field further.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

Acousticasl measurements at low frequencies
Automatic equalization at low frequencies
Single subwoofer optimization
Multiple subwoofer optimization
Room dimension and source/receiver optimization
Room acoustical treatment optimization
