by Jihen El Khaldi, Lotfi Bouslimi, Mohamed Najeh Lakhoua

Information System and Smart City, Vol.4, No.1, 2024; 116 Views

Smart grids may be characterized as the amalgamation of electrical grids, communication networks, specialized hardware, and computational intelligence (algorithms). This integration aims to oversee, regulate, and coordinate the generation, distribution, storage, and utilization of energy. Indeed, smart grid technologies have the potential to facilitate the distribution of substantial quantities of power generated from renewable sources. For this purpose, a comprehensive modeling approach is employed to simplify and enhance the feasibility of the task. It introduces a highly intricate system where modeling the components and relationships between entities proves challenging. Optimal energy management is necessary in this case. This paper provides a summary of an investigation into the modeling and optimal management of smart grids. In fact, this work allows a discussion of a hybrid system. Then we briefly introduce the domain of conceptual modeling within the enterprise.

Building sustainable libraries by embracing diversity and inclusion in Digital Era

by Agatha Ujunwa Nnatu, Ngozi Njideka Okechukwu, Chinemerem Chika Jacinta

Information System and Smart City, Vol.4, No.1, 2024; 173 Views

This study explores the dynamic relationship between sustainability, diversity, and inclusion within library contexts amidst the Digital Era. Conducted in May 2024 across various schools in Anambra State, Nigeria, the research targeted library users to assess their perspectives on sustainable practices and diversity strategies. Utilizing an easily accessible questionnaire deployed via Google Forms, data on sustainable initiatives and diversity measures were collected. Analysis conducted using SPSS included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, ANOVA, and the Tukey post hoc test. Results reveal significant demographic variations in the effectiveness of diversity enhancement strategies, emphasizing the pivotal role of age, occupation, educational background, and gender in shaping library practices. The findings underscore the necessity of tailored interventions to promote sustainability and inclusivity in libraries, especially in the digital age where diverse perspectives and equitable access to information are crucial. Understanding the nuanced interplay between demographic factors and strategic initiatives allows libraries to better address the evolving needs of their communities, fostering environments that are both sustainable and inclusive.

Assessment of spatial distribution of schools in the northern area of Riyadh city

by Omer Alrwais, Abdulmohsen Alshutairi, Sulaiman Alshehri, Saleh Alsaleem, Abdulrahman Almutawa

Information System and Smart City, Vol.4, No.1, 2024; 79 Views

This paper aims to study the distribution of three types of schools in the northern area of Riyadh city in Saudi Arabia in order to uncover the aspects of imbalance distribution of schools over the 4 districts of the study area (Almalqa, Sahafa, Jasmine and Narges neighborhoods) in addition to assess the extent of compatibility between the number of schools in each district and the density of population residing in it. The used dataset is built up of mainly tow datasets for schools and districts covering the study area. This research has utilized MS Excel, ArcGIS and QGIS software and applied the Point-to-Polygon overlay to locate the three types of schools in their corresponding districts and three types of analysis were applied which are the average nearest neighbor, heat map, and district classification based on population ratio with the aim of exploring the clustering patterns of schools as well as classifying the districts based on the density of schools relative to population. The study concludes that there is a spatial disparity in the distribution of schools, mainly in terms of their density, in the different districts due to the variation in population. Moreover, a notable inequality of the distribution of schools with respect to the population has been found.

Delivering development to the urban poor through slum dwellers association: The case of Bhubaneswar smart city, India

    by Sthitapragyan Ray, Sramana Mukherjee

Information System and Smart City, Vol.4, No.1, 2024; 80 Views

As cities become hubs of technological innovation and drivers of development, they are also faced with the challenges of the mushrooming growth of slums. Exposed to crowded living conditions, unsafe and hazardous surroundings and lacking in basic amenities of housing, water and sanitation, the urban poor live a life of deprivation in these settlements. Smart cities are expected to provide novel solutions to the persistent challenges of slums. This research explores Bhubaneswar Smart City, capital of the eastern Indian state of Odisha with respect to the implementation of the government’s flagship urban renewal program—JAGA Mission (Livable Habitat Mission). The paper examines the contributions of Slum Dwellers Associations created under the JAGA Mission for development of poor neighborhoods in Bhubaneswar Smart City. The study findings reveal that despite their capacity and financial shortfalls and the potential for politicization, these grassroots associations of the urban poor contributed to the slum up-gradation initiatives of the state.

    by Rakesh Kumar

Information System and Smart City, Vol.4, No.1, 2024; 54 Views

India is one of the countries in the world which has made continuous progress in the technological revolution. The development of Smart Cities has led to a revolution in e-governance and the citizen-centric approach. The Geographical Indicators and Location-based assets can provide quick action and decision-making approaches to City Administrators. All Smart City GIS Layers on a single platform are beneficial for Smart City and Urban Planners and Administrators to find common solutions for retrofitting the environment. The common GIS Layer helps in utility services planning and drainage mapping which allows for the underground laying of all utility pipes and cables. This research is about the mapping of the common GIS Layer of a Smart City of India on a single WebGIS map to its core. The common GIS Layer will help in decision support and quick action redressal in emergency scenarios as well.

Study on traffic efficiency of driver groups at different green light time based on entropy change model

by Xiaojuan Li, Xinliang Guo, Jingwen Zhu, Aijuan Li, Yicheng Mao, Zilin Zhang

Information System and Smart City, Vol.4, No.1, 2024; 62 Views

The difference in psychological behavior when drivers cross the road has a certain impact on the efficiency of crossing the road. On the basis of analyzing the subjective and objective factors of drivers, the entropy change model of green light time is established and verified. The model can simply judge the time when the driver faces different traffic lights, so as to effectively calculate the drivers driving speed, analyze the traffic situation, and improve the traffic efficiency.
