Special Issue Information
Dear colleagues,
Structural dynamics and vibrations are essential aspects of structural engineering as they help to ensure the safety and reliability of structures, as they can reveal potential failures, damages, or instabilities that may occur due to dynamic loads, to analyze and design structures that can withstand various loads and environmental conditions, and to improve the performance and functionality of structures, as they can optimize the stiffness, damping, mass, shape, or material of structures to achieve desired dynamic characteristics. The objective of this special issue is to present recent and innovative advances on research studies and engineering applications in important areas of vibration engineering and structural dynamics to support the needs of professionals and researchers engaged in protecting civil and mechanical structures and infrastructures from a variety of external actions, such as earthquakes, wind, vibrations, and extreme loads. This Special Session can serve as a source of high-impact information for the global community of researchers, professors, engineers, practitioners, engineering students and new comers in a variety of disciplines seeking to know more about the state of the art, challenging open problems and innovative solution proposals in vibration engineering and structural dynamics. Contributions on the following topics are welcome (but they need not be limited to this list):
-The effects of dynamic loads on structures such as wind, earthquakes, traffic, or machinery,
extreme loads, etc.;
-Linear and nonlinear methods of dynamic structural analysis;
-The seismic responses of buildings, bridges, and other structures;
-Seismic isolation of structures;
-Passive vibration control strategies to mitigate the dynamic responses of structures (tuned mass
dampers, etc.);
-Passive and active systems for earthquake protection;
-Dynamic soil–structure interaction;
-The investigation of earthquake-induced pounding between adjacent structures;
-Methods for the earthquake-resistant design and retrofitting of structures;
-The assessment, repair, and strengthening of existing structures, including historic structures
and monuments;
-Soil dynamics and foundations under seismic loads;
-Application of artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning in in structural
dynamics and earthquake engineering;
-Structural health monitoring techniques;
-Soft computing techniques in structural dynamics.
-Power and energy harvesting of vibration systems;
-Fault diagnosis and control design applications;
-System identification;
-Structural performance assessment.
