Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a special issue on "Translingual Words and Dynamic Lexicon." The words of the world are increasingly becoming translingual, transcultural, and transnational (Kiaer, 2018, 2019). Terms such as "borrowing" or "loan" are insufficient to explain the transcultural words that form our lexicon, as these words are inherently dynamic and border-crossing. Inevitably, expressions that define the nation-state identity for words may disappear.
In this special issue, we welcome contributions on how lexical innovation occurs between and beyond diverse languages, and the implications of these lexical interactions in our day to day life - both in physical and virtual worlds. We are particularly interested in contributions from minority languages or languages that are less discussed in the linguistics literature. The submission deadline is November 30th, 2023, and the maximum word count is 8,000 words.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
(i) Birth of translingual, transcultural words (region-specific)
(ii) Translingual words in culinary terms
(iii) Translingual words and social media
(iv) Dynamic lexicon in the digital age
(v) Linguistic innovation
(vi) Hybrid words and their identity
(vii) Local adaptation of English words
We look forward to your submissions.
